Ritz

We had a visitor come by the other weekend for a quick hello. We always keep Tillamook sharp cheddar cheese around (we're Oregonians, after all), and had some pistachios in the cabinet. There's a little market downstairs, so I ran to get some fancy crackers. Turns out, all they had were Ritz or Triscuts. I went with the Ritz and although it wasn't a super-sophisticated spread, everyone enjoyed it. I must say, Ritz are way better (read: buttery, flaky, crispy) than I remember. How do you prepare for last-minute guests?

  1. Ha - I have to agree with you. Ritz are surprisingly delicious for being the "common man's" cracker. Ha.

  3. I was told by my husband that now that we are married I couldn't get the generic Ritz crackers there was no replacement for the real thing! :)

  4. Love this post!

We always have alcohol for visitors and I try to have something homemade in the fridge or cupboard - OR something we can whip up very quickly.

There is nothing wrong with Ritz - they are great with the right cheese like a cheddar.

  7. I definitely agree, ritz are the way to go, especially with Tillamook cheese (I'm originally from Hillsboro myself). I love the sharp cheddar they make, but I think their jack cheese is my favorite.

  8. I always try to have crackers and cheese on hand too! Roasted peppers, olives...sometimes I freeze nice loaves of fresh bread that I can throw in the oven to heat and slice and serve...olive oil too!

  10. Cheddar and ritz is perfection to me! Sometimes we get caught up in the fancy shmancy stuff and forget how good the everyday stuff really is.

We don't often have last minute guests but our fridge is always full of cheese, and we have grissini, olives and roasted almonds (and ritz!) in the pantry - what more could you want!
